my heart refuses to go on

Blame the spread of American pop culture or the world’s Clinton obsession, but Argentina’s media definitely did not comment on the recent Hillary video because of an interest in American political campaigns (not even Americans are interested in the actual campaigns).

But because the video is deemed “newsworthy” here in Argentina, I don’t feel so bad about adding my two cents. So here it is…For those who haven’t heard, Clinton’s campaign had its own American Idol of sorts, allowing her supporters to vote for the campaign’s song. Tunes were played and votes were tallied and finally the campaign was ready to release the name of the winning song– but not before releasing a promotional video mimicking the final scene from the Sopranos finale.

It’s a smart ad and an even smarter P.R. move. I’ve never even seen the Sopranos and I thought it was clever. As has been reported, over one million people have already watched it.

Too bad the actual song sucks. Serving as a reminder of why the world hates America, apparently a plurality of voters picked Celine Dion’s “You and I.” Yes, a Celine Dion song. What is this, 1996 and Bill’s running for re-election? I’ve long been a fan of Hillary Clinton–she’s been both a good neighbor and senator–but this sounds like a losing song to me. Is it possible that Karl Rove voted for this song over and over and over as a means of screwing with her campaign?–REBECCA
